Mandi: In a peculiar incident highlighting lack of faith in the country’s justice delivery system, family of a girl who allegedly committed suicide, forcibly lit her pyre in the courtyard of her in-laws on Saturday evening.

The victim, Anjana (23) of village Manjhrotu under Nachan Vidhan Sabha of Sundernagar sub-division in Himachal Pradesh, had died at PGI, Chandigarh, on Wednesday, after she received burn injuries due to a blast in a kitchen stove. The incident sparked off resentment in her parental village in Bilaspur district from where about 600 angry villagers traveling in trucks, cars, tractors and two-wheelers and mobbed the village of her in-laws. They then carried her body to their courtyard and carried out cremation amidst slogan shouting against the administration.
